My name is Eva and I have been growing orchids for over 10 years.
Back in 2006 we built a 3m×2m greenhouse in the backyard where I was boarding with 2 other people in Auckland, I have grown about 150 orchid plants in this tiny greenhouse.
In November 2011, I saw a business for sale on Trademe that was a well known orchids breeder 'Norm Porter Orchids' nursery. The nursery was run down, current owner was selling all the stock a cheap price. I borrowed money and moved to Waikanae, and took over all the stock and leasing the greenhouse from land owner. I lived in a garage and part-time worked in local supermarket at nights, rest of days I worked in the nursery, took me months to tidy up the nursery.
2015, we moved 15,000 orchid plants from Waikanae to Manakau, Levin, in our new 1000 sqm greenhouse (please watch the slideshow 'how we built our new greenhouse'). We wholesale our orchid plants to Garden Centres, Mitre 10 Mega stores around the country. And I run a small shop in the front of the greenhouse, also,sell my plants in Paraparaumu Saturday market, Orchid shows in Wellington, Manawatu, Wanganui, Wairarapa, Home & Garden shows in Wellington and Hawkes Bay etc..
I enjoy to talk to customers, spread my knowledge and my passion to people. Thank you to all you have been supporting my little business for all these years. I came in to New Zealand as a international student with one suitcase 16 years ago. It's the generosity of the people here that share this beautiful country, now I call HOME.
